Breaking down financial barriers to keep young ballplayers in the game
The Hardball Access Foundation is committed to leveling the playing field in youth baseball by removing the economic barriers that exclude talented athletes from competition. We believe every young person deserves access to the mentorship, discipline, and personal growth that baseball provides. Through scholarships (e.g., for equipment, tournament fees, and training opportunities), coaching, and program support, we work to ensure that young ballplayers aren’t priced out of high-level development and the pursuit of the game at the next level.

Why do athletes today need more resources?
Baseball has never mattered more to kids—and it's never been more expensive. Once a seasonal, community-based activity, youth baseball has transformed into a year-round enterprise centered around club teams, paid training, private coaching, and high-cost travel tournaments. Families often spend $1,000–$5,000 annually for competitive play. In today’s baseball environment, these rising costs have made access to the game more dependent on family income than on talent or dedication. Families with greater means can invest heavily in these opportunities, while those with fewer resources face tough choices or are forced to opt out entirely.
This financial pressure is reshaping the game. Participation is increasingly divided along income lines: only one in four children from households earning under $25,000 regularly play sports, compared to nearly four in ten from families earning over $100,000. The result is that a young athlete’s opportunities—and often their success—are more closely tied to family income than to talent, effort, or potential.
The Hardball Access Foundation was created to change this reality. We break down financial barriers by providing scholarships for fees and travel, outfitting players with quality gear, and partnering with community programs to expand affordable, local training opportunities. Our mission is simple: restore the promise that in youth baseball, a child’s future is determined by their dedication and ability—not by their family’s bank account.
Through our work, we envision a level playing field where every young athlete with the desire to compete has the chance to play, grow, and thrive—both on and off the field.
